Dona Ana Beach voted best in the World
Readers of the Spanish edition of the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller magazine have chosen, from a list of 50 different beaches worldwide, Lagos’ Dona Ana beach as the best in the world.
Even though there were three other Portuguese beaches on the shortlist, the magazine declared Dona Ana as the most beautiful in Portugal, and in the world. Distinguished for the “turquoise colour of its water that stands out from among natural slopes”, it beat off competition from its national rivals, the Santa Cruz beach in Torres Vedras (which ranked 16th), Praia do Amado (Algarve, which ranked 18th), and Praia do Alemão (Algarve, which ranked 46th). It also shook off stiff competition from some of the world’s other most stunning beaches, including the private Song Saa Island in Cambodia, which took second place. Rounding off the podium, in third, was the South Male Atoll beach, in the Maldives. Completing the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world were the Com Dao and Bai Dai Islands (Vietnam), in fourth and fifth place, followed by the Nueva Esparta beach on Margarita Island (Venezuela), in sixth, and the “tropical paradise” Tulum, in Mexico, in seventh. Eighth, ninth and tenth places went to the Trou D’Argent beach (Mauritius), the Hotel Madinat Jumeirah Mina A’Salam beach (Dubai) and the Villa Montenegro resort beach on the Sveti Stefan island, Montenegro, which is very popular among Hollywood stars.
